A League of Their Own
About
In Korea, girls are taught to be innocent and soft-spoken, to study hard and be pretty. Playing and watching sports is not conducive to any of these traits. So, as a tomboy that loved playing baseball, soccer, basketball, and running, I was usually the only girl amongst boys. I thrived in challenging them in their traditional domains. Though I was bold, I know it can be difficult for other girls to do the same, as it is the girls that were always surprised and joking about how I “was a man” for being so physically active. However, I know that the camaraderie, and mental and physical stimulation of playing and watching sports was great for not just my personal growth but even my academic. I created this organization to reduce the psychological barriers for younger girls to participate in sports by fostering a love of watching baseball.
